Christ is First! 耶穌基督是第一!

“So that in all things He Himself will come to have first place in everything” Colossians 1:18
“他可以在凡事上居首位”/歌羅西書1:18

Context/背景

A. The City/城市
Colosse located about 125 miles southeast of Ephesus.
歌羅西是位於以弗所西南方的125英哩處

A rich area both in mineral wealth and merchandising.
是一個礦產豐富及商業發達的地方

Population consists of Jews & Gentiles.
居民包括猶太人跟非猶太人

B. The Church/教會
Paul had never visited Colosse (see 2:1).
保羅從未去過歌羅西

The gospel was first brought to Colossae by Epaphras (1:7)
福音是最先由以巴弗傳播到歌羅西的

The work of Epaphras resulted in the formation of the Colossian church.
歌羅西的教會是因此而建立的

C. The Crisis/危機
Paul was now a prisoner in Rome.
保羅當時被囚禁在羅馬

Epaphras had come to confer with him concerning  a new teaching that was undermining the Gospel.
以巴弗找保羅協商關於一個正在逐漸損害福音的新的教義

This heresy is generally called “gnosticism”
這個異端邪說通常被稱為“諾斯替教”
GNOSTICISM/諾斯替教
This doctrine was a strange blending of Christian truth, Jewish legalism, Greek philosophy, and Eastern mysticism.
這個教義是一個由基督教的真理, 猶太教的法規, 希臘的哲學, 及東方的神話的奇異的合併

These heretics taught that all matter was evil, including the body.
這些異端邪說所教導的是凡事都是邪惡的, 包括身體.

The most dangerous aspect of the Colossian heresy was its depreciation of the person of Jesus Christ.
歌羅西的諾斯替教的最具危害性的一方面是對耶穌基督的低貶.

PURPOSE/目的

Paul wrote Colossians to defend the preeminence of Christ.
保羅寫信給歌羅西人來捍衛耶穌基督的至高無上/首位.

Preeminence = having paramount rank, dignity or importance; supreme.
Preeminence=至高無上的地位,尊貴,重要性.

Paul’s theme is that “Christ is all and in all” (3:11)
保羅的論點是“惟有基督是包括一切, 又住在各人之內” (3:11)

I. Christ’s Preeminence in the Cross
基督在十字架上的至高無上(1:13–14)
The false teachers had a message, but their message had no power to it.
這些假的教師雖有啟示但他們的啟示是無權力的.

In these verses Paul reviews the effect the Gospel of Christ had on the Colossians.
在歌羅西書的這些經文當中保羅重述了基督的福音對歌羅西人的影響.

A. How they were saved/他們如何被拯救
Through Epaphras, the Colossians heard “the word of the truth of the Gospel” (v. 5) and a church was born.
透過以巴弗歌羅西人聽到了“福音真理的道”(v. 5), 一個教會也誕生了.

B. The Evidences of their Salvation/他們被拯救的證據
These believers demonstrated faith, hope, and love (vv. 4–5, 8).
這些信徒顯示出信心, 希望, 及愛(vv. 4–5, 8).

II. Christ’s Preeminence in Creation
基督在創造萬物上的至高無上(1:15–17)
Paul describes Christ’s supremacy in creation in four ways:
保羅以四個方式敘述基督在創造萬物上的至高無上:

Christ is Firstborn (v.15)
基督是首生的 (v.15)

Christ is Creator (v.16)
基督是造物者 (v.16)

Christ is the Goal of creation, and
基督是造物的目的

Christ is the Sustainer (v.17).
萬物靠基督而立 (v.17).
Christ is “the image of the invisible God.”
基督是“不能看見之神的像”

“Eikon” = image or representation
“Eikon” = 影像或代表

The writer of Hebrews expressed the same thought: “He (Jesus) is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his nature” (Heb. 1:3, NASB; KJV’s “express image”).
希伯來書的作者曾表達過相同的想法: “他是神榮耀所發的光輝,是神本體的真像 ” (希 1:3, NASB; KJV’s “express image”).

Christ is “the firstborn of all creation.”
基督是“首生的”

“Firstborn” (prototokos) can mean first child, or “first in rank or honor.”
“首生的” (prototokos) 可以代表長子或是“第一順位”

Jesus is the firstborn—the highest rank—in all of creation.
基督是首生的—是最高順位—在萬物當中.

Our text is declaring His supremacy over all creation because
我們的文中聲明著祂在萬物中的至高無上是因為

1) He is Creator of everything/祂是萬物的創造者
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities” (v.16a).
“ 因為萬有都是靠他造的,無論是天上的,地上的;能看見的,不能看見的;或是有位的,主治的,執政的,掌權的” (v.16a).

2) He is the Goal, and all creation is moving toward Him and for Him/祂是目標, 萬物向祂而去並為祂而去

“all things were created through him and for him” (v. 16b; cf. Rev. 4:11).
“ 一概都是藉著他造的,又是為他造的。” (v. 16b; cf. 創 4:11).

3) He is the Sustainer of the Universe/祂是宇宙扶持者

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold [cohere] together.”
“他在萬有之先;萬有也靠他而立。” (v. 17).

Application/應用

My dear friends, does the Lord Jesus have the first place in your lives?

親愛的朋友們, 主耶穌在你們的生命中是首位的嗎?

III. Christ’s Preeminence in the Church基督在教會中的至高無上(1:18–23)

“And He is the head of the body the church” (v. 18).
“他也是教會全體之首” (v. 18).

When we became believers, we became part of Christ’s Body.
當我們信主之時, 我們成為了基督身體的一部分.

“Head” = source or authority.
“首” = 掌管權的來源.

We are to submit to Christ’s authority and rule.
我們要服從基督的掌管權及支配.

The reason for Christ’s exalted position in the Church is that “He is the firstborn from the dead” (v. 18b), signifying His sovereignty over death.

基督在教會中崇高的地位原因是“他是元始,是從死裡首先復生的” (v. 18b), 象徵著祂對死亡的統治權.

Not saying that Jesus was the first person to be raised from the dead, for He was not.
這並不是說耶穌是第一個從死亡中升起復活的人, 因為祂並不是第一個.
He was the most important of all who have been raised from the dead, because without his resurrection there would be no hope for mankind (1 Cor. 15:20).
祂是從死亡中復活的人當中最重要的, 因為沒有耶穌的復活人類就沒有了指望(哥前15:20).

Challenge/挑戰

What should “the preeminence of Christ” mean to us?
“基督的至高無上”對我們應代表著什麼?

Paul says, “that in everything He might have the preeminence” (v.18).
保羅說, “使他可以在凡事上居首位 ” (v.18).

“Everything” extends his “firstness” (supremacy) to as wide a scope as is conceivable and beyond.

“凡事”把祂的“第一順位”擴展到所有可想像及超越可想像的範圍.

Christ must have first-place in everything: our worship, love, devotion, study, work, leisure, relationships, families, marriages, ministry, mission, etc.
基督必須在凡事上佔有第一順位: 在我們的崇拜上, 愛情上, 奉獻上, 學習上, 工作上, 休閒上, 關係上, 家庭上, 婚姻上, 教會上, 傳教上, 等等.

Let us give Christ the preeminence (first-place)!
讓我們把首位獻給耶穌基督!
