1. Everyone Has A Story

6Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” 8He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food.

2. The Benefits Of A Surprise Meeting

  • A surprise meeting can lead to questions.

9 The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans.  She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”  10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” 11“But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this is a very deep well. Where would you get this living water? 12And besides, are you greater than our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his cattle enjoyed?” 9撒瑪利亞婦人對耶穌說:你是猶太人,怎麼向我,一個撒瑪利亞婦人要水喝呢?10耶穌回答她:你若知道 神的恩賜,和對你說請給我水喝的是誰,你必早已求他,他也必早把活水賜給你了。

  • Questions can lead to surprising answers

13 Jesus replied, “People soon become thirsty again after drinking this water. 14But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life.” 15 “Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me some of that water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to haul water.” 13耶穌回答:凡喝這水的,還要再渴;14人若喝我所賜的水,就永遠不渴。

16 “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. 17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband — 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now.”  16耶穌說:你去,叫你的丈夫,然後回到這裡來。

4:6: Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

3. The Message Is Very Simple

  • People like to complicate the message

19“Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. 20So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?” 21Jesus replied, “Believe me, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father here or in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans know so little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 23 But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship him that way. 24For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

  • Jesus must be our focus

25 The woman said, “I know the Messiah will come — the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!” 25婦人說:我知道那稱為基督的彌賽亞要來;他來了,要把一切都告訴我們。”

When We Go, Remember…..

  1. You are not alone.

2:3-5: 3 I came to you in weakness — timid and trembling.  4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. I did not use wise and persuasive speeches, but the Holy Spirit was powerful among you. 5 I did this so that you might trust the power of God rather than human wisdom.

  1. Be yourself and do what you feel comfortable doing.
  2. Thank God in advance for what will happen at the Go Event.
